Biography

The study of mathematics at The Johns Hopkins University goes back to the founding of the university in 1876.

Nitu Kitchloo joined Johns Hopkins as a professor in 2010 and in 2014 was appointed chair of the department.

Abstract

Aurel Friedrich Wintner (8 April 1903 – 15 January 1958) was a mathematician noted for his research in mathematical analysis, number theory, differential equations and probability theory. The collection consists largely of Wintner's writings and reprints of his colleagues' work with materials spanning 1848 to 1961.

Abstract

Francis D. Murnaghan (1893-1976) was professor of mathematics at Johns Hopkins University from 1928 to 1949. The collection consists of research notes, lecture notes, correspondence, reprints, and drafts ranging in date from 1925 to 1971. Several lectures are in Portuguese and were presented by Murnaghan at the Instituto Tecnológico de Aeronáutica, São José dos Campos, Brazil.

Abstract

Rufus Isaacs was a mathematician and the creator of a field of mathematics called differential games. The collection consists of conference material, correspondence with colleagues, reprints of articles, a photocopy of his first paper on differential games from the Rand Corporation, and a draft of the preface for the 1965 edition of "Differential Games." Materials span in date from 1941 to 1975.
