Scope and Contents note
Subgroup 2, series 4, Owen Lattimore, Director, dates from the period 1931 to 1955 and has been further subdivided into four subseries. Subseries 1, Administrative and Financial, 1931-1953, includes correspondence with the University Treasurer, a copy of the director's report, and a set of recommendations given by Lattimore in 1953. Files in this subseries are arranged in alphabetical order.
Subgroup 2, series 4, subseries 2, Subject Files, 1945-1953, consists of personal and official correspondence, written and received by Lattimore. While most of this subseries deals with Lattimore's administrative and scholarly responsibilities, there is also correspondence concerning a family of Mongolian exiles which Lattimore helped support. This subseries is arranged in alphabetical order.
Subgroup 2, series 4, subseries 3, Correspondence, spans the years 1946 to 1952. Materials in this subseries primarily concern solicitations and arrangements for speaking engagements, to which Lattimore responded. For some reason, there are also a few subject files relating to various topics in Lattimore's area of interest. The subseries has been arranged in alphabetical order by letter, with the subject files in alphabetical order at the end.
Subgroup 2, series 4, subseries 4, Curricular Files, 1940-1955, consists of student records, class lists, syllabi, and reading lists. Files in this subseries are arranged in alphabetical order.
