Scope and Contents
This series includes 29 postcards, which were published by Rishar publishing house (likely publisher Izdanie Rishar of St. Petersburg), with illustrations depicting folklorist Alexander Nikolayevich Afanasiev's version of The Humpbacked Horse, a Russian folktale. The images were either illustrated by or influenced by Ivan Yakovlevich Bilibin, the illustrator for Afanasiev's canonical Russian Fairy Tales collection. The cards were published in approximately 1900.

Biographical / Historical
The "Rishar" (Richard in English) Publishing Company was known as a publisher of multi-color postcards of various themes, including depictions of the Russian royal family, military conflicts such as the Russo-Japanese War and World War I, and folktales.
