In Series 4: Writings are copies of Austin's published journal articles mostly dealing with labor issues as well as manuscript notes, reviews, research, and correspondence related to her published books, Labor Story (1949) and Matthew Lyon (1981). Included also is an interesting example of Austin's creative writing, the subject of which is faithful to her interest in labor history. Her unpublished play, "The Passion of Eugene Debs," is filed in this series. Of particular interest in this series are Austin's notes, clippings, and correspondence related to the Montgomery Bus Boycott, one of the most significant events of the Civil Rights Movement. The file is titled "Desegregation - Montgomery and formed the basis for her article, "Behind the Montgomery Bus Boycott" published in The Monthly Review, September 1956.
