Scope and Contents note

From the Sub-Series:

Subseries 2: Towson Office documents many problems and issues of interest to Long's constituents in the suburban areas of his district. Long perceived himself as a congressman who established new standards in constituent service. He was described in an interview with The Sun (May 30, 1977) as "an advocate, dogged and often angry." He was known for his "post office visits" in Towson, Essex, Pikesville, Parkville, Dundalk and other parts of the Second District where he met personally with citizens and developed a friendly rapport with voters. In this subseries is a representative group of items that reflect community issues common during the 1970s: energy, environment, health issues, preservation, Social Security, and education. The files contain research, referrals, reports of staff efforts to resolve problems, Long's specific legislative and persuasive efforts on behalf of the district, issue statements, meetings, correspondence, and other details from the district office.
