Scope and Contents

The records of the Milton S. Eisenhower Symposium date from 1977 to 2017, as well as from 2015-Ongoing for archived websites. The collection provides a thorough sample of the types of records generated, as well as the planning that goes into the Symposium. Biographical / Historical

The Milton S. Eisenhower Symposium was instituted in 1967 to honor the notable contributions of Milton Eisenhower in the cause of higher education. It centers on one topic per year, such as immigration, sexuality, technology or journalism, sponsoring films, lectures and debates dealing with these topics. Speakers in the past have included Masters and Johnson, Carl Bernstein, Russell Baker, Tom Hayden, Issac Asimov, Ralph Nader, Jerzy Kosinski and many other noted individuals. The Symposium, organized and directed by the undergraduates, has gained much respect and recognition and is considered a unique student contribution to education.

Abstract

The Milton S. Eisenhower Symposium was instituted in 1967 to honor the notable contributions of Milton Eisenhower in the cause of higher education. The records, dating from 1977 to 2017 and from 2015-Ongoing for archived websites, contain numerous fundraising letters, as well as other types of correspondence, resumes of speakers, some financial statements and schedules of the Symposium. The records also contain poster advertisements and programs for the Symposium.

Most of the records were given to the Archives by Vinay Lal, Chairman of the 1981 Milton S. Eisenhower Symposium.
