Biographical / Historical
Originally a military band founded in 1921 by Conrad Gebelein, The Johns Hopkins University Band, is the oldest and longest-running instrumental group on the Homewood campus. "JHU Band is the parent name for a variety of different ensembles: The Wind Ensemble, The Pep Band, and The Jazz Ensemble and Jazz Band."
The band is now a large musical group in which undergraduates, graduate students, university employees and alumni (from both Hopkins and Goucher College) participate. In addition to giving regular concerts, the band also plays at home athletic events and sends a delegation to away games. The band also works with the Barnstormers and the Glee Club.
