Scope and Contents

A single broadside dated October 18, 1867. Lyrics of two songs to be sung by the young ladies of the high schools at the laying of the corner-stone of the new city hall in Baltimore. About 13 x 6 inches. First set of lyrics does not contain a title. Second song is "Gloria in Excelsis." The broadside had been folded in four places, but is now flattened and two tears repaired. Handwritten notes on front and back.

Biographical / Historical

On October 18, 1867, the corner-stone was laid for the new city hall in Baltimore. At this time there were approximately 88 public schools in Baltimore and the young ladies from the high schools were invited to sing. The lyrics of two songs were printed on this broadside and there is a handwritten note indicating that the Reverend Joseph B. Still offered prayers at the occasion.
