JCT as Falstaff
Scope and Contents
Photographs of Thomas in a range of professional and personal settings, including publicity photographs. Includes scrapbooks containing clippings and photographs of Thomas's professional activities in the 1930s and 1940s.
This series contains racist and culturally insensitive materials, including photographs of Thomas and other white musicians in a blackface minstrelsy performance, photographs of Thomas wearing makeup to darken his skin tone for an operatic production of Aida, and photographs of a "Romany Chorus" whose white singers pose in stereotypical Romani costumes.
