The collection consists of a few items of correspondence, clippings, pamphlest, and a partially typed manuscript of "The Algebra of Probably Inference."

Robert A. McCabe, an officer in the United States Army and a subagent for the Bureau of Indian Affairs, was born in Pennsylvania in the late 18th century. The letterbook (1829-1838) which forms this collection consists of a bound volume in the handwriting of Robert A. McCabe.

The papers of geologist, Robert Balk, include research files, photographs, writings, correspondence, and approximately 50 field notebooks. The materials date from 1922 to 1956.

Robert Bruce Toulston was a professor of German at Johns Hopkins University for thirty-seven years. Collection consists of condolences, notebooks and notes, bound plays (German, and English translations of Italian), and theater and concert programs from 1908-1953.

Robert Larimore Pendleton (1890-1957) was a soil scientist and professor of geography at Johns Hopkins University. The collection consists of two bound reports: "Soils and Land Use in Peninsular Siam," by Pendleton, and Pendleton's copy of "Soil Series Bibliography," by Charles F. Shaw and Mark Baldwin. The reports span 1938-1949.

The collection consists of letters addressed to Congressman Robert Roberts Hitt from various government officials. Many of the letters related to Hitt's work with the Committee on Foreign Affairs.

Collection of physicist, Robert Williams Wood, contains a small amount of correspondence, printed biographical material, and copies of reports and proceedings from scientific societies dating from 1927-1942.

Roger Brooke Taney (1777-1864) was the fifth Chief Justice of the United States. Collection consists largely of letters (1838-1856, 58 items) written by Taney to his son-in-law lawyer James Mason Campbell (1810-1869).

Henry Augustus Rowland (1848-1901) was a first professor of physics at the newly founded Johns Hopkins University in 1876, a post he held until his death in 1901. Rowland collected an extensive library of reprints (1793-1900) on a variety of subjects, including: Electricity, Heat, Liquids, Mechanics, Gases, Apparatus and Methods, Physics of the Earth, Solids, Chemistry, Acoustics, and Light.

Rufus Isaacs was a mathematician and the creator of a field of mathematics called differential games. The collection consists of conference material, correspondence with colleagues, reprints of articles, a photocopy of his first paper on differential games from the Rand Corporation, and a draft of the preface for the 1965 edition of "Differential Games." Materials span in date from 1941 to 1975.

The collection of astronomer, chemist, and environmental activist, Sally H. Dieke, consists largely of papers from her teaching career and her work with local environmental groups, which range in date from 1886 to 1989.

Samson Feldman (circa 1901-1983) began submitting political cartoons to The Baltimore Sun after graduating from Baltimore City College. This collection contains 33 printed cartoons that were published in The Evening Sun editions of The Baltimore Sun from 1917 to 1918. The collection also includes one photograph of Feldman from circa 1966. This collection does not include original art work.

Samuel Grant Oliphant (1864-1936) was a Classics scholar and professor of Greek and Sanskrit who studied at Johns Hopkins University. The collection is formed by 43 notebooks containing the student notes recorded by Samuel Grant Oliphant during his graduate studies at Johns Hopkins University from 1902 to 1907.

Samuel Ottmar Mast (1871-1947) was a biologist and zoologist at Johns Hopkins University. The collection consists of correspondence, administrative information related to running an academic department, and reprints of articles. The collection materials range in date from 1912 to 1947.

Sarah L. Hawkes (1844-1899) was the daughter of Winslow and Lydia McLellan Hawkes and the grand-daughter of General James McLellan (1777-1854), a prominent Bath, Maine merchant and shipbuilder. The collection consists of a Civil War period autograph album with autographs that span 1860 to 1877.

The collection consists of letters from out-of-town guests as well as Baltimoreans regarding attendance at the sesquicentennial celebration.

Sidney Clopton Lanier (1842-1881) was an American musician, poet and author. The collection spans the years 1838 to 1998, with the bulk dating from 1838 to 1972. The material consists of correspondence, prose, poetry, lecture and music manuscripts, photographs, memorial information, and newspaper clippings.

This collection contains research material, writings, and course lecture notes dating from 1902-1960.

The collection consists of holographic letters and documents of signers of the Declaration of Independence. Many of the letters describe the proceedings in Congress and some contain information relaitng to the progress of the Revolutionary War. One signer, Lewis Morris (1726-1798), is not included in the collection.
