Overview Alexandre Chessin was born in St. Petersburg in the Russian empire in 1866 and was a professor of Pure and Applied Mathematics at Johns Hopkins University from 1895 to 1899. This collection contains photocopies of handwritten lectures given by Chessin from the 1895 to 1896 academic year, collectively titled: "Introduction into the Study of the Theory of Functions--Lectures Delivered at J.H.U. in 1895-96 by Alexandre S.
