Hermann Hugo Paul Haupt, a Semitic scholar and one of the pioneers of Assyriology in the United States, was born in 1858, in Gorlitz, Germany. This collection consists of one volume of handwritten course notes made during Haupt's summer studies in 1877.

Edwin Litchfield Turnbull papers
Edwin Litchfield Turnbull (1872-1927) was a musician who helped create both the Johns Hopkins University and the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra. The collection spans the years 1881-1971 and consists of approximately 400 letters, photographs, loose newspaper clippings, juvenile notebooks, and 13 scrapbooks of newspaper clippings relating to musical, social, or other events.

Paul Haupt (1858-1926) was a philologist and a professor of Semitic Languages at Johns Hopkins University. The collection consists of correspondence and research for an expedition in search of Assyrian and Babylonian antiquities from 1884 to 1888; 4 notebooks from Haupt’s graduate studies at Leipzig from 1877 to 1879; and 1 volume, "Notes from the Oriental Seminary," edited and annotated by Haupt.
