In Series 3 are copies (photostats) of research notes of noted German philologist, Eduard Sievers (1850-1932). The notes are mainly on English literature. In Series 4 are copies of pages of books dating from the Middle Ages either written in German or in Latin, but with German influences in the text. Material in this series indicates that Wilkens was also very interested in styles of writing and in iconography although he did not publish anything on these subjects. The items were formally part of the Lanier Room established in Gilman Hall in the 1940s.
