notebook on apparatus for distilling mercury, pictures and advertisements for motors, dynamos, batteries, electric lighting equipment, after 1888
Scope and Contents
The collection consists of 20 notebooks of student class notes or laboratory notes dating from 1876-1906. The notebooks also contain clippings and printed material on related topics. A brief description of each notebook is in the containter list. Wiegand studied under Henry A. Rowland and Louis Duncan, and there are notebooks from their lectures. There is also a volume of notes [1880s?] entitled "Electricity and Magnetism" taken by Gustav Adolf Liebig. Liebig was a fellow in physics when Wiegand was a student at Hopkins. The notes are possibly from Rowland lectures. Another notebook (l904) contains data on experiments with a process of color photography developed by Wiegand and a Mr. [Ludwik?] Silberstein. It was apparently different from the process patented by Hopkins physicist Robert W. Wood.
