The records of the Department of Physical Education and Athletics range in date from 1889 to 2003 and 2015-2018. They are by no means complete and they document only a portion of the many activities of the Department. The record group, the files of which are arranged in alphabetical order, includes: minutes of most meetings of the Department held between 1938 and 1949, but no other minutes; programs, tickets and announcements relating to particular sporting events, including programs of lacrosse games dating from 1926 to 2003; records, dating 1948 through 1954, of the Spiked Shoe Society; data for fall, winter, and spring sports of 1951-1953; a collection of "strength test cards" which record the physical condition of Hopkins men in 1898; and athletic press releases, lists of awards, records of athletic clubs, a lacrosse team resolution of 1919, and a lacrosse starting lineup record from 1952.
