Biographical / Historical
Planning for the Centennial Celebration was initiated in October 1969 with the appointment of Dr. Ferdinand Hamburger as Director of Centennial Planning. A Centennial Board was created, originally composed of 35 individuals representing all divisions of the University. Eight members of the Centennial Board served on the Executive Committee which oversaw all aspects of Centennial planning. Eventually the Centennial Board was increased to 41 members, while the Executive Committee was increased to 11 members.
At the first meeting in January 1970, the Board formed three committees: the History Committee, the Theme Committee, and the Medal Committee. As the number of activities planned for the centennial year grew, so did the number of committees; by September 1975 eleven additional committees existed.
