This collection consists of the teaching and research notes of Robert Forster on various subjects in American and European history, as well as professional correspondence and book reviews written by Forster. The records consist of published works, typed drafts of his writings, and handwritten notes dating from 1946-2003.

Biographical/Historical Note
Robert Forster (1926 -) is an emeritus professor of French history at Johns Hopkins University. Having earned his bachelor degree from Swarthmore College and his PhD from Johns Hopkins, Forster joined the Hopkins History Department as a Professor of History in the 1950s, a position where he remained until his retirement in 1996. An expert in modern French history, Forster published a number of notable works on the subject. His 1970 book entitled Preconditions of Revolution in Early Modern Europe has been printed in 53 editions and three languages, and is held by 1,256 libraries worldwide.

Abstract
Robert Forster was a professor in the Johns Hopkins History Department for almost 50 years, where he became renowned for his work on the history of early modern France. These are the professional papers of Forster dating from 1946-2003, including, but not limited to, research notes, typed drafts of his writings, correspondence, and teaching materials.
