Scope and Contents
This collection contains state correspondence from several Ministers of Justice and a Minister of the Interior during the era of the First Republic of France, providing instruction to local authorities. Each is from a different official. The memo from the Minister of the Interior is on the topic of the quartering of recruiting officers. The letters from the Ministers of Justice pertain to questions of defendant rights in cases of slander, government repossession of property and debt liquidation cases, and court records management. Jean Marie Goulemot biography
Jean Marie Goulemot is a French historian specializing in eighteenth century France, particularly literature, the history of ideas, and culture. He has published numerous books and articles including Forbidden Texts: Erotic Literature and Its Readers in Eighteenth-Century France and Le Règne de l'Histoire: Discours historiques et révolutions, XVIIe-XVIIIe siècle. Dr. Goulemot is professor emeritus at Université de Tours and was named a member of the Institut Universitaire de France in 1991.

This collection of French Revolutionary and Napoleonic items donated by Jean Marie Goulemot, ranging from 1796 to 1804, contains state correspondence from the Minister of Justice and the Minister of the Interior.
Immediate Source of Acquisition
Donated by Jean Marie Goulemot in 2013. This gift was part of a purchase by Special Collections in June 2013 of Goulemot's rare publications regarding the French Revolution.
