Derived from dealer description: This collection consists of a brief tract on prostitution by Theodore Tilton. The tract was distributed by his publication, The Golden Age, which began that year. The main text is approximately eight pages and describes an interaction between the speaker and a prostitute, and then argues against Christian disparagement of prostitutes. An ad for The Golden Age appears on the final page.

Biographical / Historical

Derived from dealer description: Théodore Tilton was an abolitionist, poet, women’s rights advocate, and newspaper editor, born in New York City in 1835. He was known for his involvement in the highly publicized Tilton-Beecher scandal, wherein his wife, Elizabeth, apparently committed adultery with the Tiltons' friend and pastor of their church, Henry Ward Beecher. Following Beecher's acquittal, Tilton moved to Paris, where he eventually died in 1907.
