Army Nurse Corps photo album

 Collection — Box: 1
Identifier: MS-1045

Content Description

This photograph album dating from 1911-1913 was created by an unknown woman who was a member of the Army Nurse Corps. The black-and-white photographs show her travels as a Corps member around the United States, sometimes in her nursing uniform or depicting the hospitals where she worked, such as the Corps headquarters at Walter Reed Army Hospital in Washington, DC, the Presbyterian Hospital in San Juan, Puerto Rico, and an unidentified isolation ward. Other photographs show her travels on ships and trains, or sightseeing with friends. Some photographs may show family members, including two photographs of children labeled Ruth and Edna Agne, although it is unclear what her relationship may have been to them. Pictured locations include Chicago, Brighton Beach, San Francisco, and Colorado.

In many places in the album, photographs have been torn or cut out.

An unrelated postcard for Rose Cottage in Chautauqua, NY is included in the box; this postcard was originally tucked into the album. It has no obvious connection to the album, given that it appears to date from around the 1990s and contains only handwritten notes from the owner of Rose Cottage on a customer's deposit on a room and a phone number. This item has been retained in case it offers any clues to help identify the woman who created the album.
