J. C. Bledsoe slave bill of sale
Scope and Contents
Collection consists of a handwritten bill of sale for a female slave dated October 10, 1859. The woman, Francis [sic], age 18, was purchased for thirteen hundred dollars from J.C. Bledsoe by William Scouggs. The bill of sale was found by W.D. Meeker in the Ordinance Depot, Nashville, Tennessee in 1863, and it is likely the sale took place in Tennessee.

Immediate Source of Acquisition
The bill of sale was found by W.D. Meeker in the Ordinance Depot, Nashville, Tennessee in 1863. The item was given to the University by Lorrain Sherman Hulburt in 1932.
