Scope and Contents

The collection consists primarily of writings on various aspects of cotton production dating from 1921-1946. It also includes two catalogs from cotton seed suppliers, and a newspaper article on cotton production. The writings cover a variety of cotton topics, including an analysis of Egyptian cotton, a discussion of the role of cotton in the development of slavery in South Carolina, and the commercial use of long staple cotton.

Biographical Note

Orator Fuller Cook, Jr., was born in 1867 in Clyde, New York. He received his B.A. from Syracuse University in 1890. In 1898, Fuller joined the U.S. Department of Agriculture and spent most of his career in agriculture. He was an expert on modern and pre-Columbian agriculture whose interests ranged from myriopads to palms.

He died in 1949 at the age of 81.

The papers were found in the Physics Department by Dr. Henry Meyer, and donated to Special Collections.
