This item is a large format herbarium book, compiled by Mary Ann Cowan in 1835. It contains forty pages with eighty-eight specimens, each identified with a botanical and common name. The cover is of heavy stock. The title page reads, "Mary Ann Cowan, Sudbury School, 5th Month 14th 1835." The majority of specimens are well preserved. The book was originally intended to be a Partnership account book for Robert Cowans, as indicated by a hand penned note on the inside from cover dating to December 1, 1911. The herbarium is believed to have been made in Pennsylvania. The item spans from 1835 to 1911.
