Grace Hill Turnbull papers
Scope and Contents
The collection consists of Grace Turnbull's correspondence with British writers dating from 1933-1935. It includes the letters of Stephen Mackenna with whom Turnbull consulted while she was writing The Essence of Plotinus; her work is based on Mackenna's translation of Plotinus. Her other correspondents included William Ralph Inge, G.W. Russell, Sir John Collings Squire, and Evelyn Underhill.

Biographical Note
Grace Turnbull was a sculptor, painter, and author. She was born in Baltimore on December 31, 1880. She studied at the Maryland Institute of Art, the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, and later exhibited her work in Baltimore and Washington, D.C.
Turnbull also published several books, including Tongues of Fire (1928), The Essence of Plotinus (1934), and The Uncovered Well (1952). She died in Baltimore in 1976.
