Scope and Contents

This artificial collection spans a large period of the University's history, from 1876 to 2002, and consists of texts, audio tapes, and video tapes of lectures, speeches, and other events of interest which took place at, or were related to, The Johns Hopkins University. The collection does not include all lectures and speeches given during that period, but the number of events covered is substantial.

Abstract

This artificial collection spans a large period of the University's history, from 1876 to 2002, and consists of texts, audio tapes, and video tapes of lectures, speeches, and other events of interest which took place at, or were related to The Johns Hopkins University.

Physical Characteristics and Technical Requirements

Collection includes the following media, some of which require specialized equipment: Paper, Reel-to-reel tape, Audio cassette, 33 1/3 rpm gramophone, 16mm film, 2" quad videotape, 1" videotape, 3/4 inch U-Matic videocassette, Beta videocassette, VHS videocassette

Immediate Source of Acquisition

The magnetic audio tapes were transferred to the Archives by the Audio-Visual Department of the Milton S. Eisenhower Library. Most of the texts were transferred by the Special Collections Department of the Milton S. Eisenhower Library, and by the Offices of News and Information Services. American Addresses with a lecture on the Study of Biology by Thomas H. Huxley was inscribed and given to the University by his grandson, Sir Andrew Huxley, on the hundredth anniversary of Huxley's Hopkins address. In addition, some tapes were transferred by Ross Jones, and by Sally Uhler Boswell, Special Assistant to the Vice President for Communications and Public Affairs.
