Evelina Martini papers
Scope and Contents
The Evelina Martini papers, 1924-1991, contain photographs, correspondence, clippings, programs, and other documents related to Martini's musical career and personal life. Also included are a small number of Martini's music manuscripts, poetry, and prose. The papers include documents related to the estate of Evelina Martini's husband, Ted Martini, and the sale of Ted's Music store after his death.

Biographical / Historical
Evelina Martini was a violinist in the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra. She was born Evelyn M. Fine in Pottsville, Pennsylvania, in 1913. As a teenager she studied violin in New York City with Sam Franke and then with Michael Press in New York and Michigan. From 1940 to 1967 she played first violin in the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra and was among the first female musicians in the ensemble.
Evelina's husband, Theodore (Ted) Martini, ran Ted's Music on Centre Street in Baltimore, across the street from the campus of the Peabody Institute, from the 1940s until his death in 1986. Evelina Martini sold the business in approximately 1989. She died in approximately 2002. Evelina's name was sometimes spelled Evalina.
