Scope and Contents

The Virginia C. Blackhead music manuscripts (approximately 1905-1955) contain mostly songs for voice and piano composed by Blackhead. Music manuscripts, many in ink or pencil with corrections, some ozalid copies; some songs have mimeographed typed words in caption.

Biographical / Historical

Virginia C. Blackhead (1882-1969) was the superintendent of the Peabody Preparatory from 1932 to 1944. Blackhead was also the director of the Baltimore and Ohio Women's Music Club from 1925 to 1940 and a musical advisor to the Peabody Junior Choir (later renamed the Phoenix Choir of Baltimore). She earned a Teacher's Certificate in piano from the Peabody Conservatory in 1900.

Virginia C. Blackhead (1882-1969) was the superintendent of the Peabody Preparatory from 1932 to 1944. Blackhead was also the director of the Baltimore and Ohio Women's Music Club from 1925 to 1940 and a musical advisor to the Peabody Junior Choir (later renamed the Phoenix Choir of Baltimore).
