Biographical / Historical

The Baltimore Chapter of the American Guild of Organists (AGO) is a regional professional organization for organists and choral conductors.

Because the Maryland Chapter of AGO, founded in 1911, did not admit women, a Baltimore Chapter was organized in 1921 for men and women organists. The two chapters merged into the Chesapeake Chapter in February 1924, in large part because of the efforts of organist Margaret P. Ingle. The Chesapeake Chapter was renamed the Baltimore Chapter in the late 1980s or early 1990s.
