Abstract

Leonard Leopold Mackall, American bibliographer, editor and collector was born in Baltimore on January 29, 1879. The collection consists of correspondence, scrapbooks, subject files and other research materials. The correspondence in the collection spans the years 1547 to 1937 with the bulk of the material spanning 1900-1937. There is additional information dating from 1949 regarding the collection after it was acquired by Johns Hopkins Libraries.

Otto Ortmann papers

Otto Ortmann was the director of Peabody Conservatory of Music from 1928 to 1941 and founder of the conservatory's department of research, where he conducted studies on the education, psychology, and physiology of music. Stephen Crane (1871-1900) was an American novelist, poet, and short story writer, who in 1895 wrote "The Red Badge of Courage", which earned him international acclaim. This collection of materials relating to Crane, compiled by Johns Hopkins University alumnus Richard Frary, includes letters (many by Crane), events ephemera, photographs, articles of literary criticism, and sheet music (inspired by his fiction). The materials date from the 1890s to the early 2000s.
