The Johns Hopkins University Press, the oldest North American university press in continuous operation, dates its origination to 1878, the year the first issue of the American Journal of Mathematics was published "under the auspices of" the Publication Agency of the Johns Hopkins University and with the "aid and furtherance" of the University itself.
