Maurice Bessman is an emeritus professor of biochemistry and enzymology in the Department of Biology at Johns Hopkins University. May Garrettson Evans was a writer for The Baltimore Sun who founded the Peabody Preparatory Department in 1898 and served as its superintendent until 1930.
