Frederic C. Lane Venetian account books

Scope and Contents The collection consists of two series: microfilms of Italian mercantile records (1416-1535); and a typescript entitled "Translation of Selected Ordinances on Banking". The material reflects Lane's work as a scholar, and provides little biographical information. The microfilmed records (190 rolls) form the bulk of the collection, and contain information not otherwise available outside Italy. The film was shot in very short reels, so each is only 100- 200 frames long....

George Charles Keidel (1868-1942) was associate professor of Romance Languages at Johns Hopkins University and was later a librarian at the Library of Congress. The collection spans the years 1899-1935 and consists largely of Prefessor Keidel's lectures and writings on romance paleography. Some material is in French.
