This collection consists of unpublished volumes devoted to the deciphering of hieroglyphics and were drawn from notes and sketches made during his voyages in Egypt between 1762 and 1782.

Paul Bowles (1910-1999) was an expatriate artist who lived in Tangier, Morocco; Mark Dery (1959) is an American writer, professor and cultural critic.
