An artificially assembled collection of four lottery advertisements, publicizing what was possibly the largest lottery in Britain in 1816. The items span from approximately 1815 to 1816. The slips were likely printed in 1815, but mass distributed in 1816.

The scrapbook which forms this collection is a bound volume containing around fifty illustrations representative of the subjects and style of nineteenth-century British book illustration. In the scrapbook are caricatures, cartoons, foreign scenes, social commentary, and hand-colored engravings.

Charles Howard Carter was born in Baker, Oregon on April 3, 1927. He was Professor of History at Tulane University and a noted specialist on Spanish and European diplomacy in the sixteenth and early seventeenth centuries.

David Spring was a professor of history at Johns Hopkins University for forty years (1949-1989). The collection contains notes and references from manuscripts researched by Dr. Spring while in Britain, photocopies of manuscript pages, and course lecture notes. Exact collection dates are unknown, since the collection has not been processed.

Ellen Bankes Friend (born Ellen Pigeon) (1816-1883) was married to John Bankes Friend (1808-1881), a Director of the Globe Insurance Company, and a Governor of Christ's Hospital in England. This collection includes a handwritten recipe book and one loose leaf recipe, previously folded into the book, compiled by Ellen. The recipe book is dated February 14, 1840.

Frank N. (Francis Nelson) Pilling was born in Baltimore, October 17, 1908. The papers consist largely of his personal writings, some in typescript and some in published form. Other items include correspondence, photographs, genealogical records, and documents and notes from his wartime service in London.

This collection contains four sketchbooks created by the British architect Frederick Sandham Waller. The volumes include notes, sketches and watercolors, and are dated to approximately 1870.

John Ayers was born in 1738 at Uxbridge, Middlesex, England. The collection consists of a diary (1766-1793), four commonplace books (1761-1802), and four notebooks of poems (1769- 1788).

This collection contains lectures, speeches and writings; reprints; book manuscripts; and the conference papers of John G. A. Pocock, a historian of political thought and professor emeritus at Johns Hopkins University. His papers spans the years of 1962 to 2017, with the majority of the materials dating from Pocock's time at Hopkins. This holding notably includes his handwritten manuscripts of Barbarism and Religion (1999).

Collection of English philosopher and economist, John Stuart Mill, consists of over 300 holographic letters written to him by noted economists, philosophers, theologians, and political figures of the nineteenth century. Drafts of Mill's replies are included along with 43 holographic letters written by Mill to Auguste Comte, 1841-1847. Most of the correspondence is published.

The Johns Hopkins University collection of vintage games and toys is an artificially assembled collection of materials purchased and selected by the curators of Special Collections. It spans from 1796 to 2020.

This collection consists of a nineteenth century commonplace book of recipes written in ink. It is attributed to Lydia Perrott, for whom no biographical data is available at this time.

Margery Pope was approximately born in 1909 and apparently lived her life in and around Southampton, England during World War II. This item is a recipe book once owned by Pope and also includes loose recipes, printed and handwritten, which were previously inserted in the book's rear pocket. The notebook spans from 1938 to 1947.

Philip D. Curtin (1922-2009) was a historian and author. The collection of author and historian, Philip D. Curtin, consists of materials related to his teaching and writing career dating from 1955 to 1993.

Samuel Oldknow was the first successful maker of British muslin in the 18th century. The records, dating from 1787 to 1811, consist of approximately 75 items which include correspondence, pay-tickets, receipts, ledgers, account and memorandum books, shop-notes, and documents.

The collection consists of one bound handwritten manuscript written in 1616. The author is unknown. There is a dedication "from a poor country man" to Sir Thomas Bromley, possibly the English judge (1530-1587) who presided over the trial (1586) of Mary, Queen of Scots.
