Johns Hopkins (1795-1873) was a highly successful Baltimore merchant and philanthropist. He left much of his wealth to found a university and hospital in Baltimore. This collection contains manuscripts, photographs and printed material by or about Johns Hopkins and his ancestors, 1743-2005.

The papers consist of land records, legal documents, family correspondence, family bibles, diaries, scrapbooks, and photographs of multiple families dating from 1684 to 1972. The families represented include the Maynard-Owen-Eastman families, the Ridgely family, and the Howard family.

Joseph Michael Lalley (1896-1980) was a literary critic and conservative author.

J. Montgomery Gambrill (1880-1953) was a historian and professor at Columbia University and Johns Hopkins University. This collection consists largely of typed and handwritten correspondence, subject files, and teaching files reagarding his research and administrative duties, from 1794 to 1966.

James Ryder Randall (1839-1908) was a native of Maryland and penned the poem, Maryland, My Maryland! which was adopted as the state song in 1939. The collection includes autograph transcriptions of a letter to Charles F. Gunther of Chicago and the accompanying aforementioned poem.

John Higham was a historian and professor at Johns Hopkins University with a principal field of interest in American social and intellectual history of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. The collection consists of holographic course notes, outlines, examination booklets, and other assignments completed during his undergraduate years at The Johns Hopkins University, 1937-1939, as well as material relating to Dr. Higham's teaching and writing career.

John Weatherburn was born in the village of Kenton, England, April 23, 1750 and immigrated to the United States in 1772. The collection consists of a diary, letterbook, daybook, and two journals of Baltimore merchant, John Weatherburn ranging from 1766-1816.

Collection consists largely of correspondence and professional papers of American banker and diplomat, John Work Garrett. Included are items from Garrett's foreign service in Venezuela, Argentina, the Netherlands, and Italy. Other materials relate to political events, locally and internationally (1920-1940). Also in the collection is extensive personal correspondence of Garrett and his wife, Alice, which describes personal friendships, travels, entertainments, and cultural interests.

This is an artificially assembled collection of oral histories recorded with administration, faculty, staff, alumni, students, and other Johns Hopkins University affiliates, 1999-2004 and 2014-present. The early oral history interviews were faciliated by Mame Warren starting 1999, and as of 2014 by Hopkins Retrospective.

Kemp Malone was a medievalist, philologist, etymologist, authority on Chaucer, and Professor of English Literature at Johns Hopkins University for over 30 years. The papers span the period 1913-1975 and contain drafts, typescripts, proofs, research notes, notebooks, lectures, reprints and news clippings.

Papers produced and collected by the Keyser family of Baltimore, Maryland. The Keysers accumulated wealth in the 19th and 20th centuries through mercantile businesses, inheritance, and a variety of industries, including the Baltimore & Ohio Railroad, copper and iron works, and investments in land and real estate. They used some of this wealth to finance Baltimore’s public and private institutions, including Johns Hopkins University.

Collection consists of one bound volume that served as a register for visitors to the Ladies' State Sanitary Fair held at the Maryland Institute in Baltimore, April 1864. Notable signatures include Abraham Lincoln; Mary Todd Lincoln; Treasury Secretary, Salmon P. Chase; Secretary of State, William Henry Seward; Maryland Governor, Augustus W. Bradford; and Major General Robert C. Schenck.

Collection consists of two bound holographic volumes of Baltimore resident, Madge Preston (1815-1895). In the first volume (1868) Mrs. Preston copied letters sent to family and friends during a trip to Europe in 1868 in which she described the sea voyage, visits to German cities, and various social activities. Most of the letters are addressed to her husband, William P. Preston. The second volume (1885) is a record of letters sent and received and a daily ledger of weather and activities.

The Merryman-Crane family papers document the nineteenth century life of two families of enslavers related by marriage, one centered in Richmond, Virginia, and the other in Baltimore County, Maryland. The Merryman family papers consist of land deeds, legal documents, and correspondence spanning 1742-1908 The Crane Family papers consist of correspondence, poetry, prose, and financial documents. The material spans 1821-1908 but mainly dates from 1850-1890.

The collection consists of a poem, "Maryland," written by a Mrs. Lawson, most likely during the Civil War. The poem was intended as a satirical response to the pro-Southern lyrics of "Maryland, My Maryland," written by James R. Randall.

The National Coal Company was headquartered in Baltimore, Maryland. This collection consists of one folder of receipts, sales slips, invoices and letters dealing with the day to day business running of the business. Materials date from 1905 to 1917.

G.T. Beauregard (1818 – 1893) was a Confederate general during the American Civil War. Collection consists of one letter, dated November 5, 1873, written to Maryland historian J. Thomas Scharf. Beauregard describes the participation of Maryland troops in the battle of Manassas (also known as the Battle of the 1st Bull Run).

Ralph G. Murdy was a deputy police commissioner with the Baltimore City Police Department in the 1970s. The collection consists of pamphlets, documents, committee minutes, correspondence, reports, and notes mostly related to the process of criminal justice in the city of Baltimore dating from 1878-1972, with the bulk of the material dating from 1960-1972.

This collections consists of one bound volume. It is a scrapbook put together by Dr. Cowles to display his collection of newspaper articles, drawings and photos about the oyster trade in the Chesapeake Bay area. The collection provides a look at the struggle amongst oyster tongers, oyster farmers and the Republican and Democratic parties to find a solution to declining oyster population in the early 20th century.

The collection consists of approximately 230, loose photographs and photostats of title pages used as plates in the published volume: Seventeenth Century Maryland: A Bibliography published in 1949.

Thomas Gresham Machen (born 1886) was an architect and book collector. The collection consists of clippings of Baltimore newspapers from 1859, correspondence from 1909 and 1945 relating to rare books, and an undated biographical sketch of Maryland colonial settler, Margaret Brent.
