Abstract Douglas Huntly Gordon, Jr. was born in Baltimore in 1903. During the 1930s, he served in the Maryland legislature. In 1938, he founded the Mount Vernon Improvement Association and spent much of the rest of his life fighting to retain the original architectural integrity of Baltimore's Mount Vernon Place. Abstract The Gallery of Art was one of the four branches of the Peabody Institute outlined in the founding letter from George Peabody in 1857. From the 1870s to 1924 the Gallery functioned as an art school and museum for Baltimore and built a collection that was particularly strong in American art.
